Esther Sekiziyivu
Candidate for Saratoga Springs City Council
Esther Sekiziyivu knows exactly what Saratoga Springs families are going through because she's living it too. As a working mother raising children in our rapidly growing city, she deals with the same challenges every day: sitting in traffic that gets worse each month, worrying about keeping her kids safe in a community still shaken by recent incidents of violent crime, and watching housing costs climb while wondering how long families like hers can afford to stay.
She Gets It Because She Lives It.
Esther isn't running because she needs a political career—she's running because Saratoga Springs needs leaders who will stand up in defense of the values we hold dear. When growth brings 30+ new families to Saratoga Springs every month, Esther sees the strain on our schools where her own children learn. When traffic backs up on major routes, she's stuck in it like everyone else, trying to get to work or pick up her kids. When property assessments arrive in the mail, she feels the same concern about rising costs that keeps neighbors awake at night.
As a financial educator, Esther works daily with Saratoga Springs families struggling to balance mortgage payments, rising utility costs, and the reality that our city's rapid growth is pricing out teachers, firefighters, and the working families who built this community.
A Plan That Prioritizes What Matters Most
Esther has a proven plan to tackle the issues Saratoga Springs voters care about most:
Public Safety First: Rapid growth brings new challenges, and without careful planning, our community risks the higher crime rates that often accompany unmanaged expansion. Recent tragic events have reminded us that public safety can't be taken for granted. Esther will ensure our police have the resources, training, and staffing needed to keep pace with our growing population and maintain the safe community families expect.
No New Property Taxes: While Saratoga Springs has avoided property tax increases for nearly 18 years, growth pressures and new tax proposals threaten that record. Esther commits to holding the line—no new property taxes, no unrealistic assessments that force families from their homes.
Fix Our Traffic Crisis: Esther sits in the same traffic jams as every parent rushing to school pickup. She'll prioritize transportation infrastructure that keeps people and businesses moving instead of sitting gridlocked on roads that can't handle our growth.
Protect Our Schools: As a mother and educator, Esther will fight to keep divisive politics out of our classrooms while ensuring Saratoga Springs children get the world-class education they deserve, funded by smart growth that pays for itself.
Real Experience Solving Real Problems
Esther's background gives her the tools to deliver results, not just promises. As a financial educator, she's helped hundreds of families navigate economic challenges—the same skills needed to manage a city budget responsibly. Her work with churches and nonprofits has taught her how to bring people together to solve community problems. Her experience as an author and grassroots organizer means she knows how to communicate clearly and build coalitions for change.
Preserving What Makes Saratoga Springs Special
"We must safeguard our way of life and ensure that growth enhances rather than diminishes what makes Saratoga Springs special," Esther says. She understands that residents aren't anti-growth—they want elected officials who will manage growth responsibly while protecting the community character that drew families here in the first place.
A Voice You Can Trust
Esther's Christian faith shapes her commitment to honest, principled leadership. She believes elected officials should serve constituents, not special interests, and that city government works best when it listens to residents and acts on their priorities.
Esther and her husband chose Saratoga Springs because they wanted to raise their children in a safe, thriving community. Now she's running to ensure other families have that same opportunity—without being priced out or forced to compromise on safety, education, or quality of life.
